Job Description
On behalf of a client in the utilities sector, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader for the Director of Marketing and Economic Development role. This position will drive targeted marketing and business attraction and retention strategies, lead and close new business recruitment deals, build and maintain stakeholder relationships, oversee business development initiatives, and articulate the company’s unique value propositions. Responsibilities also include managerial duties over the marketing and economic development teams. This is a full-time, onsite position based in select locations within Louisiana’s Central, Capital, or Northshore regions.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in the utilities sector, a strong network within Louisiana’s energy and industrial landscape, and a proven track record of economic development successes.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Develop and implement marketing strategic plans, focusing on revenue growth and retention, and ensuring alignment with the company’s broader business objectives
- Build and maintain effective and intentional relationships with key stakeholders, including economic developers and organizations, government officials, strategic business partners, and site selectors
- Provide direct project leadership throughout the site selection process, including prospect visits coordination, incentive communications and negotiations, and introductions to state and local officials
- Coordinate the planning and execution of economic development initiatives, including lead development, business attraction and retention, job creation, business assistance, marketing, and related functions
- Drive the development, creation, and dissemination of marketing collateral and informational assets, including marketing materials, web content, maps, presentations, databases, reports, proposals, and sales presentations
- Coordinate with state agencies, private landowners, and local partners to enhance regional availability of qualified industrial and business sites
- Collaborate with other organizational departments to enhance alignment, agility, and exceed KPIs
- Embrace a mindset of continuous improvement by proactively seeking and implementing ways to enhance processes, performance, and outcomes
- Oversee and responsible for the team performance, KPI tracking, and budgets of the marketing and economic development functions
- Interact professionally with the organization’s executive team and Board of Directors, providing upward support and strategic insights
- As a leader of the organization, champion a corporate culture focused the company’s core values
Minimum qualifications include: - Bachelor’s degree in marketing, economic development, business, economics, urban and regional planning, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
- At least 7-10 years of related, relevant experience, preferably within the utilities sector, with at least 3-5 years of managerial experience
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local best practices, incentive programs, real estate/site development, and regulatory agencies and procedures
- Strong financial acumen, with the ability to understand and interpret financial materials, models, forecasts, and finance deal structuring
- Strong critical thinking and emotional intelligence skills, including active listening, collaborating, analyzing and synthesizing information, and finding effective solutions
- Ability to manage multiple projects, high workloads, and conflicting priorities with a flexible attitude and strong time management skills
- Ability to interpret KPIs/metrics, derive actionable insights, and maintain high work standards for seamless execution
- Proven skills in research, writing, and presenting, with proficiency in data storage, access, and analysis tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of employees, address complex issues, and present material in meaningful ways
- Technical knowledge of Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams); GIS experience and/or web publishing skills a plus
- Ability to travel as needed
