Job Summary:
The Director of Economic Development and Community Engagement, reporting to the Vice President for Economic Development and Corporate Education ( EDCE ) designs, leads, and manages economic development and community engagement initiatives. The director collaborates with the Vice President to develop strategic partnerships, identify grant and funding opportunities, and implement community engagement work. The director connects faculty, staff, and students to meaningful economic engagement opportunities and works collaboratively with the entire EDCE team to meet collective vision and goals.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of progressive experience related to program planning, management, and evaluation.
Knowledge of current practices and trends in engaged scholarship, project-based learning, and place-based initiatives. Documented skills in program planning and assessment.
Ability to independently plan, manage and meet deadlines for multiple projects with minimal supervision. Ability to work well with multiple constituencies including faculty, staff, administrators, students, alumni and community representatives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as attention to detail and demonstrated experience working as an effective team member. Flexible, adaptable and skilled at balancing multiple tasks and works well under pressure. Experience in developing community-university partnerships. Experience managing grants and external sources of funding. Ability to supervise others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Deep knowledge of the New River, Roanoke Valley or Southwest Virginia community.
Experience working in a nonprofit, foundation, or civic organizations.
