U.S. Honor Guard Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (Part-Time) The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard represents Airmen to the American public and the world. The vision of the USAF Honor Guard is to ensure a legacy of Airmen who: promote the mission; protect the standards; perfect the image; and preserve the heritage. The 2022 USAF Honor Guard Manual (HGM) establishes guidance on drill and ceremony procedures for all Honor Guard members. The procedures are under the guidance of the USAF Honor Guard IAW AFI 34-501,
Mortuary Affairs Program, and IAW AFMAN 36-2203,
Drills and Ceremonies. Individuals assigned to the USAF Honor Guard are required to maintain physical fitness commensurate with their assignment within the unit, to include pallbearer, drill team, firing party, and colors.
OBJECTIVES :
To minimize injury or risk of injury intrinsic to movements performed within the pallbearer, drill team, firing party, and colors specialty by ensuring minimum strength levels are attained and members progress to higher milestones of the specialty's strength measurements.
TASKS :
- Must be able to create, administer, maintain, and tailor individual strength and conditioning plans for at least 50 members annually.
- Measure, document, and track each members’ completed fitness training sessions and strength progression.
- Travel will be primarily within the National Capital Region and may occur quarterly, or as needed, to operational settings to observe pall bearers performing their assigned duties. Observe and analyze physical movements and strength requirements. Incorporate observational findings into individual fitness plans.
- Must educate new members on proper nutrition for optimal strength progression and ideal athletic body composition. Provide no less than five initial nutrition classes annually.
- Instruct, critique, coach, and correct proper lifting techniques for all Olympic lifts and modern exercises.
- Design various specialty-specific training programs that fit a member’s metabolic and physical demands.
- Provide individualized coaching and instruction to members that are not passing the minimum prescribed casket carrying and honor guard fitness standard.
- Create modified training plans for members that are injured or on duty limiting profiles.
- Provide quarterly reports detailing fitness levels within the pall bearer flight. Must track and display improvement in overall strength. Highlight negative trends and areas of decline. Provide executable plan to improve areas of concern.
- Brief the pallbearer flight chief on the status of fitness within the pall bearer flight on a monthly basis.
- Brief the USAF Honor Guard Commander annually on the status of the pall bearer fitness program. Provide feedback and recommendations as needed during annual briefing.
- Immediately notify the assigned Flight Commander or Flight Chief of any known hazards or dangerous practices identified in the fitness training area.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the field of exercise science (required), but Master’s degree (preferred)
- Maintain valid CPR/AED certifications. Computer based training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements.
- 1+ years relevant strength and conditioning coach experience (preferred)
Maintain valid Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification (required)
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS : The contractor shall be responsible for safeguarding all government equipment, information and property provided for contractor use. At the close of each work period, government facilities, equipment, and materials shall be secure.
PERSONAL APPEARANCE :
Contractor personnel working under this contract shall practice high standards of personal hygiene, maintain a clean, neat and professional appearance while on duty. Contractor personnel will not wear clothing made of see-through material, cutoffs, tank tops, open toe shoes, or clothing that displays offensive slogans or pictures. Contractor personnel will wear clothing that allows for proper demonstration of all prescribed exercise movements. Clothing will align with industry standard for athletic trainers. In all cases, the clothing and footwear will be neat and clean, i.e., free from visible dirt and stains; and it will fit so as to provide a professional appearance in keeping with the normally accepted standards of dress for the work being performed. Personnel will wear pants and a collared shirt at all scheduled meetings away from the fitness training area. The facility has limited heating and air conditioning. Shorts are authorized from 01 May through 31 October.

HOURS OF OPERATION: The Strength and Conditioning Coach will be on duty at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling assigned to the United States Air Force Honor Guard for part-time (20 hours per week). Routine work hours will be scheduled by the assigned Flight Chief to correspond with the needs of the Pallbearer Flight and the unit. Scheduled shifts are normally Monday through Friday 0630 – 1530. Deviations to this schedule will be communicated to the contractor by the contracting officer representative. The contracted Strength and Conditioning Coach duty day is generally 4 hours per day, 7 A.M – 11 AM. The Strength and Conditioning Coach shall arrive for each scheduled shift in a well-rested condition.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requirements include prolonged walking, standing, bending, fitness training, weightlifting demonstrations, and computer use.
