Overview: 

Align Social Impact is seeking a junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student fellow to join the team, beginning in August 2024 and ending in December 2024, as our Research and Partnerships fellow. Our Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter Fellowship programs are designed to mentor and support creative, enthusiastic individuals from diverse backgrounds with a passion for social impact strategy, campaigns, partnerships, communications, and implementation to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, highly collaborative work environment. Align is a full-service strategy and impact agency at the nexus of storytelling, research, philanthropy, culture, and systems change. We specialize in serving brand, nonprofit, talent, and foundation clients worldwide to accelerate their impact in ways that can be felt and measured. The Social Impact Research and Partnerships Fellow will play a supportive role in assisting our projects and initiatives by conducting research, crafting compelling narratives, and effectively communicating findings to team leaders and Align’s Social Impact clients.

We are looking for energetic, highly motivated individuals who want to become best-in-class social impact practitioners with relevant work or academic experience in the nonprofit, advocacy, policy, philanthropy, campaigns, or partnerships space. Applicants should be currently pursuing a degree in a social impact-related field and be eligible for an Internship/Fellowship. As a fellow, individuals will work on a range of client projects across disciplines and industries, and daily responsibilities may vary based on client and organizational needs. This is a paid opportunity; candidates must be able to commit to 16 hours per week. The hybrid internship (80% remote, 20% in person) will take place in New York City. Therefore, the selected Fellow must reside within the state of New York.

During the Fellowship, duties and responsibilities of the Research & Partnerships Fellow may include:

  • Ability to conduct in-depth research on social and environmental issues, existing impact programs, policies, and best practices.
  • Collecting and analyze data from credible sources to inform project strategies, program design, and recommendations.
  • Ability to produce reports for both academic and non-academic audiences about social impact programs, practices, trends, and research studies.
  • Developing evidence-informed reports, briefing documents, case studies, and engaging written content, including reports, articles, blog posts, and presentations.
  • Creating visually appealing materials, such as infographics and data visualizations, to enhance communication efforts.
  • Tracking research project progress in work plans and providing regular updates to Align team members 

Desired Skills for this role include:

  • Exceptional detail-oriented writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate research into clear, concise, and compelling communications.
  • Prompt, reliable, and organized, with the ability to navigate complex projects and environments efficiently.
  • Past experience in qualitative and quantitative research, with fluency in a range of research analysis and synthesis tools.
  • Ability to design and conduct surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI to present research findings effectively.
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm in the social impact sector, with a passion for developing data- and purpose-driven programs that accelerate impact.
  • Proficiency with project management tools, including Google Suite, Salesforce, Slack, Asana, and Adobe.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to interpret research findings and draw meaningful conclusions.

More Details:

  • Reports to Account Director
  • Two days per month in the NYC office required
  • Five-month Contract, starting in early August.
  • Part-Time, 20 hours per week, $18/ per hour 
  • Must be authorized for employment in the United States.
