General Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Patient Care Services Operations will lead divisional-wide initiatives by assessing, planning, implementing, analyzing, and making appropriate changes to departmental operations. This role is accountable for leading interdepartmental initiatives in collaboration with Human Resources, IT, Finance, Ancillary Support Services, and Quality. The Director will work closely with Directors and Managers to ensure effective utilization of resources and evaluate the impact of policies, procedures, protocols, and standards on operations. This position also oversees nursing departmental budgets and productivity management.
Essential Functions:

Oversee the strategic planning and management of Patient Care Services financial resources in alignment with the department's mission, vision, and values.
Collaborate with Directors and Managers to establish annual financial and operational goals and targets, developing action plans to meet those objectives.
Evaluate departmental operations and identify emerging trends and opportunities for improvement, planning and implementing major operational enhancement projects.
Manage the Staffing Office, Supplemental Staffing, Telemedicine programs, and Administrative Supervisors, determining fiscal requirements, preparing budgetary recommendations, monitoring costs, and authorizing expenditures.
Integrate data related to quality, patient outcomes, capacity management, and staff satisfaction to identify and implement process improvements.
Monitor financial, productivity, and sourcing statistics to ensure effective operations within allocated resources, providing independent judgment and expertise in analyses.
Prepare projections and recommendations for the Chief Nursing Officer regarding key departmental initiatives and develop recruitment strategies for supplemental staff.
Lead special projects for the Chief Nursing Officer, analyzing necessary resources, developing work plans, and ensuring successful project outcomes.
Foster regular communication with medical and nursing staff regarding operational issues, leading internal and external meetings, and maintaining relationships with professional affiliations.
Coordinate with Patient Care Services initiatives that include quality, patient experience, regulatory compliance, and finance, resolving day-to-day administrative issues.
Proactively anticipate and address potential problems, seeking creative solutions and improvements.
Demonstrate proficiency in technology and systems used within Patient Care Services, including Microsoft Office Suite, Epic, LMS, and Workforce Management software.
Travel between locations as needed to attend meetings and engage leaders in operational projects.

Qualifications:
Education:
Required: Nursing degree from an accredited Nursing School, Master's Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible work experience in nursing or health care administration, with at least five years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
Preferred: Green belt in process improvement or adaptive design.
Certifications:
Must maintain an ANCC specialty certification in nursing or executive leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Expertise in operations improvement with preferred consulting or project management experience.
Proficient knowledge of healthcare management, administrative and operational principles, regulations, and laws related to patient care delivery.
Competence in financial management and leadership, with successful experience managing nursing staffing models and budgets for large departments.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to integrate and interpret diverse data sources.
Ability to assess situations accurately and reach sound solutions, with sensitivity to confidentiality and the dynamics of an academic medical environment.
Effective communication skills for interaction with senior management, executive staff, and external agencies, along with strong writing skills for project-related correspondence.
Highly developed organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders.
Proficient in MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and email; knowledge of performance improvement and statistical software preferred.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a clean, well-lit environment with frequent interruptions and multiple demands. The role involves potential minimal exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety precautions.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extended periods, with standing, walking, stooping, and bending required. Frequent listening and visual acuity for reading and data reporting are necessary. Lifting of less than 25 pounds and handling of records and equipment may also be required.
