Architectural Lighting Designer Location Rosenberg, TX : As an
Architectural Lighting Designer, you will assist sales representatives with pre/post-sales support throughout various and multiple stages of a project life cycle. Daily activities include developing solutions, custom detail mockups, and documentation of deliverable sets (drawings, specifications, cutsheets, controls packages, etc.). This role parallels an electrical project designer role, but focuses on interior and exterior lighting systems. Key Components:
- Preexposure to programming and lighting systems including Madrix, ESA, ELM, and Pharos.
- Ability to interpret architectural plans and understanding of industry terminology.
- Interpret and process electrical load analysis based on drawings, material specs, and measurable voltage.
- Create BOMs and estimates based on architectural drawings, schematics, submittal documentations and/or requirements.
- Ability to use various programs for producing supporting documents such as visuals and wiring diagrams (AutoCAD, CorelDraw, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Strong knowledgebase of DMX and addressable pixel mapping as well as 0-10V, DALI, and various lighting control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work on commercial scale projects through all phases of construction: schematic design, design development, construction documents, and pre/post construction support.
- Work with engineering and sales support staff to develop concepts and strategies for lighting projects and applications.
- Giving structure to ideas - concept ideas, diagrams and renderings, spreadsheets, reports and analyses for discussion.
- Collaborate across design disciplines with client-side (outside) teams including architects, LDs, electrical engineers / master electricians, and other consultants or contractors.
- Produce visual materials to represent lighting designs (wiring diagrams and/or physical mock samples).
- Creating and/or specifying BOMs based on project designs including luminaires, power components, wiring, and control systems.
- Attend meetings and identify creative requirements to better interpret project needs.
Skills and qualifications:
- Excellent oral, written, and graphic design communication skills.
- Understanding of LED linear lighting and controls (for use in design and pre/post installation phases).
- Understanding UL & UL Class 2 requirements and other relevant energy codes and requirements (IECC, Title 24, ETL, etc.).
- Proficiency in reading electrical blueprints and electrical schematic drawings.
- Core interest in the lighting design industry with an emphasis on architectural lighting and lighting concepts (such as circadian rhythm).
- Understanding of lighting fundamentals including photometric quantities, calculation techniques, and light source types.
- Understanding of the design and documentation process such as design reports, design and construction drawings, and luminaire schedules or specifications.
- Conversational and visualization ability to explain spatial design, design characteristics and qualities.
- Excellent sales and customer service acumen (direct and indirect).
- Strong written/spoken English (Spanish is a PLUS).
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or business is desired but not a requirement to fill this position.
