Job Purpose:
As a Collateral Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in analyzing and evaluating appraisals to ensure compliance with lending standards and program guidelines. We are looking for a candidate with current FHA DE and/or VA SAR certifications, as well as a solid understanding of the loan process and FNMA/FHMLC, FHA, and VA guidelines. Your strong organizational skills and attention to detail will be essential as you work in a dynamic team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and underwrite collateral to ensure appraisals meet investor and program criteria, with a goal of processing 8-10 appraisals per day within a 24-hour timeframe, or as directed by the underwriting manager.
- Analyze FNMA CU findings, evaluate comparable selection, assess marketability and valuation acceptance, and verify that appraisals meet required standards.
- Request and review appraisal revisions, desk reviews, and field reviews as necessary.
- Cross-check appraisals against titles, flood certifications, purchase agreements, and other documents to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of conventional appraisal requirements; familiarity with FHA and VA appraisal requirements is a plus.
- Communicate appraisal decisions to branches, providing all necessary conditions, suspense with detailed reasons, or denials with comprehensive explanations.
- Maintain timely and professional communication with internal teams and stakeholders.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A minimum of 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, preferably with training and experience in appraisal underwriting.
- Current FHA DE certification is preferred; VA SAR certification is a plus.
- Proficient in using the FNMA CU tool, Outlook, and Encompass.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work while meeting productivity standards.
- Strong understanding of Agency/Investor lending guidelines.
- Capable of handling confidential information with professionalism and ethics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working Conditions:
This position is remote, with occasional travel required for training and meetings. Overtime may be necessary and must be approved by management.
