Position Summary

Primarily contributes to developing, testing, applying, and supporting an open source computational model of atmospheric composition (GEOS-Chem), data analysis and documentation.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• With input, designs and develops software for scientific applications, including developing the GEOS-Chem model of atmospheric composition ( and processing GEOS-Chem input data.
• Performs complex analyses. Contributes to documentation. Verifies the correctness of the algorithms developed and makes recommendations based on these analyses.
• Documents research activities; contributes to preparation of research work for publications or presentation to peers.
• Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with computational environment. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in methods.
• Contributes in other ways to GEOS-Chem support team.
• Assists with grant preparation and reporting.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Courses in atmospheric sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and programming provide a solid background for understanding the science and code that make up the GEOS-Chem model.
• Familiarity with software that can manipulate and visualize NetCDF file data. Software includes Climate Data Operators (CDO), NetCDF operators (NCO), Panoply Data Viewer, and Python.
• Experience with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS) and containers is desirable.

Salary Range

$48,000.00 - $86,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
