ORTHOPAEDIC PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY PURPOSE: Established and progressive orthopaedic practice has an immediate opening for a certified physician assistant. . Experience in general orthopaedics is required and total joint care experience is preferred. The position is working with an experienced and established Fellowship-trained Adult Reconstruction surgeon that performs 700+ total and revision joint replacements annually.
THE PRACTICE: Bluegrass Orthopaedics (BGO) is the states leading provider of expert musculoskeletal care, which serves the needs of its patients through a team of highly trained sub-specialists who are committed to the independent practice of medicine. Located in Lexington, Kentucky, BGO has 12 sub-specialty physicians, 11 mid-level providers, 4 main office locations and 3 satellites, MRI facilities, outpatient surgery center, and 5 outpatient physical therapy centers.
BGO provides care to patients throughout the Bluegrass and Southern Kentucky Region. We provide care for an immediate drawing area of approximately 630,000+ in the surrounding counties and an additional 500,000+ in our satellite catchment areas. To better care for these communities, BGO seeks a physician assistant with special interest in total joint care.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED: - Perform comprehensive and problem-focused patient histories and physical examinations.
- Interpret and correlate patients laboratory and diagnostic/reports procedures.
- Interpret and correlate subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis/diagnoses and establish a working diagnosis on assigned patients.
- Formulate treatment plans for orthopedic problems within the scope of practice for assigned patients.
- Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate and as directed by physician.
- Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising Orthopaedic Surgeon.
- Order, collect and perform appropriate laboratory, diagnostic procedures and studies, including, but not limited, to blood and tissue specimens.
- Order or perform other diagnostic studies including but not limited to EMG, x-rays, CT, MRI, and bone scans in addition to other studies.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, injections of joints, tendons, trigger points and bursa, as well as brace, cast, and splint applications.
- Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and evaluate hospital consults.
- Take phone-based call after hours for patient phone calls (split with other PAs in the group)
- Evaluate clinical conditions, formulate, and implement a treatment or therapeutic plan
- Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medications, braces and other orthopedic devices as allowed by state legislation.
- Evaluate, screen, and counsel patients on health maintenance and promotes utilization of community resources.
- Option to assist with activities including but not limited to seminars, after hours coverage of sporting events, i.e. games, tournaments, etc.
REQUIREMENTS: - Current, valid KY Physician Assistant License (or eligible)
- Current, valid Board Certification
- Current, valid KY Drivers License (or eligible)
- Current CPR certification
- Great communication skills
- Strong ethical and moral character references
