The role of the Microsoft Licensing Consultant (MLC) is to serve as a Public Sector Microsoft licensing expert and consultant for the duration of the customer Microsoft Agreement lifecycle. In a consultative manner, the MLC will advise, guide, and develop customer licensing solutions at the appropriate level. MLC’s deep understanding of licensing and programmatic knowledge of all Microsoft programs will help to drive adoption and consumption. Responsible for communication to internal and external teams ensuring client’s needs are fully supported while fostering an environment of continuous education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures customer compliance of contractual and licensing obligations and understands the various compliance related details of each part of the overall process. Understands and generates True Up’s as well as additional licenses during the term. Reconciles actual customer license seat usage against license agreements to ensure customer compliancy. 
  • Responsible for defining customer requirements, identify the correct agreement, define solutions, and leverage vendor relationships and platforms to fulfill requirements with established SLA’s
  • Facilitates excel generated quotes for some customers in the customer renewal year, confirms sku-based questions throughout the term of the agreement, and completes ELD customer facing workbooks with customers that require additional assistance at true up.  Oversees delivery of quotes, contracts, orders, and amendments
  • SLC’s are skilled specialists who understand the licensing business needs and unique requirements in each of the supported customer segments. Required to take continued Microsoft Education courses to ensure knowledge and understanding of licensing changes. 
  • Actively identifies workflow issues that impact the ability to properly support customers and provide timely resolutions on discrepancies
  • Proactively contact clients solo or with sales team per established calendared touch points to gather and validate the required business data and secure the annual and renewal software information to support the agreement requirements and customer fulfillment
  • Understanding of contractual requirements in the state federal and/or education space to know how to accurately create pricing at renewal
  • Provide assistance in closing Microsoft business opportunities with customers
  • Guide Sales through the Microsoft agreement process 
  • Drive sales goals through direct customer contact when needed/required
  • Identify specific business opportunities during customer conference calls and upsell where applicable through knowledge of licensing
  • Provide measurable data to management on an as needed basis on quote/order tracking, close ratio, calls made, renewals, true-ups, and contractual information in the designated territory.  Maintain/update repository of agreements within territory and vertical
  • Communicate and provide feedback regarding updates, product awareness, trends, personal experience(s) via bi-weekly video meetings with coworkers and weekly calls with direct manager

What you’ll need to succeed:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred 
  • Having a manufacturer or industry certification is desired 
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of industry experience with Microsoft background
  • A customer service or support background is also desired.   
  • Computer hardware/software knowledge is required.   
  • The willingness and ability to self-learn much of the software licensing information that will be necessary to serve as a resource for internal and external communication   
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills are a must.   
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills are also desired. 
  • In addition, knowledge of the sales process combined with the ability to establish and maintain rapport with both internal and external customers is needed.   
  • The Licensing Consultant must understand the company objectives and possess the ability to make decisions and undertake actions that balance customer needs with available product solutions and company policies. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from sales associates, sales managers and customers.   
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must and proven telephone skills are required.   

Training and Certification 

  • Due to the ever-changing nature of our industry, constant education is necessary to keep abreast of the software solutions offered by manufacturers and their direct competitors.  This will be accomplished through reading material on manufacturer websites, attending webinars and training sessions, and by participating in meetings with manufacturer representatives.  
  • The Licensing Consultant will identify and take part in training and certification programs that will support the technical, product, and industry training necessary to successfully win the confidence of Insight sales executives and customers and increase revenue in the manufacturers assigned. 
  • The Software Licensing Consultant will coordinate with manufacturer representatives as needed to obtain the required product, technology, and program training that the Licensing Consultant will need to successfully consult with sales executives and customers and grow the business.  In addition, manufacturer or industry certification may also be required.  Certification training may require travel and time spent out of office. In addition, some training or studying may be required on the employee's own time. Training and certification needs may change at any time.
