Position Details: The Opportunity: Under general supervision, prepares media for various bacterial pathogens; perform food microbiologic testing, including counts, MDS-LAMP detection; inoculate media (broths and plates) for identification of microbes from diagnostic cases. Under general supervision performs bacterial and mold/yeast counts in food products, and gram staining; performs various tests for serology; log accessions into LIMS; supports validation projects.; assists with lab equipment maintenance, media preparation, and decontamination and disposal of biohazardous laboratory waste. Answers phone, greets clients, takes history, and complete paper work as needed. Understands and observes the WADDL quality assurance program. Follows standard operating procedures described in the WADDL/AHFSL SOP's. Follows the safety protocols as described by the University, the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Be willing to work overtime in the event of a disease outbreak. Must be able to conform to the requirements of the US Patriot Act. Maintains client confidentiality. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.

permanent position. This position is overtime
eligible. Monthly Salary :
$4,410 to $5,929 | Range 50 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 .
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications: - A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, or a related science; OR equivalent education/experience.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday.
- Ability to work rotating Holidays as necessary.
- Ability to work flexible schedule, if necessary.

Preferred Qualifications: - One or more years of microbiology lab experience.
- Familiarity with veterinary medicine.
- Experience with medical or laboratory database.
- Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens.
