Salary Range: $116,200.00 - $130,100.00

Position Summary

Undertakes campaign and departmental fundraising activities in support of Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). Working with department chairmen, faculty, senior administrators, and volunteers, the Major Gift Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors at the level of $100,000 and above.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains current knowledge of funding needs within the scope of responsibility; identifies prospective donors for those needs.
  • Plans strategies from cultivation activity to gift closure, and implements that strategy in coordination with appropriate persons; reports progress toward achievement.
  • Participates in face-to-face briefings, solicitations, and gift negotiations in partnership with the Dean of WCM, dept. chairs, faculty, volunteers, etc.
  • Ensures the proper acknowledgment and recognition for assigned donors. Monitors stewardship activities, implements reporting schedules, coordinates recognition events, etc.
  • Works with donor recognition staff to coordinate, devise, and obtain approval for recognition plans and designs.
  • Staffs volunteer committees, serving as the committee members' primary liaison to the institution; plans and leads committee meetings; facilitates the successful realization of a committee's goals.
  • Communicates with faculty about campaign priorities and departmental needs. Conveys departmental needs by way of proposals, briefings, and other written materials. Serves as primary point person for physicians in donor relations.
  • Actively works to upgrade major gift donors to the principal gifts ($1 million+) level.
Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
Experience

  • Approximately 3-5 years of direct fundraising experience, preferably in an academic/medical setting or comparable environment.
  • Experience with fundraising database programs such as BBEC, Raiser's Edge and BENefactor highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Flexibility and skill in working with physicians, colleagues, and donors in a complex organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong grasp of fundraising concepts.
  • Fundraising experience in an academic medical setting.

  • Some evening and weekend work.
  • Significant travel within NYC and some out-of-town travel.
