Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of a Mailing Machines Supervisor I, the incumbent executes duties related to the processing of large volumes of outgoing United States and other carrier mail; develops mailing machine operating skills required to process the departmental workload; and performs other related work. The incumbent must be able to work well independently and in a team environment and must be able to adjust to changing priorities while meeting deadlines. The incumbent must be able to work in a dusty and noisy environment.

  • Knowledge of metering machines and United States Postal Service (USPS) equipment
  • Ability to rapidly learn effective and safe operation of Franchise Tax Board (FTB)'s mailing machines and related equipment
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, and write at a level required for successful job performance
  • Ability to work independently, and maintain simple cost and production records
  • Ability to walk/stand up to 8 hours daily, and wear closed-toe shoes for safety
  • Ability to lift boxes weighing 50 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally
  • Experience operating, adjusting, running, and maintaining mailing machines and related equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Knowledge of and experience with personal computers
  • Knowledge of Excel and Access programs
  • Good time management and dependability
  • Good communication skills
