Located in Urbana, IL
Position Summary
The School of Social Work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time Instructor or Lecturer position. This non-tenure track faculty position will primarily teach courses in the School's Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, including both residential and online formats. Instructors (applicants with an MSW degree) and Lecturers (candidates with a PhD or DSW) are responsible for delivering high-quality undergraduate and/or graduate instruction, developing innovative curriculum and teaching strategies and contributing to public engagement and service efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching
Deliver high-quality instruction for a variety of undergraduate courses, both residential and online.
Teach undergraduate courses at the School of Social Work and contribute to strengthening the BSW curriculum and elective offerings. The courseload will be four standard courses per semester. Teaching graduate courses is also a possibility.
Develop and update course syllabi, incorporating contemporary trends, technological advances, and evidence-based practices.
Design and implement innovative teaching methods to engage students actively in the learning process, fostering critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to BSW students, supporting their professional growth and development.

Public Engagement & Service
Participate in School and University service activities, including committee work and curriculum development.
Contribute to public engagement and service initiatives, enhancing the School's relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
Assist in efforts to ensure the BSW program meets CSWE accreditation standards and supports the School's mission of social justice and social change.
Contribute to interdisciplinary projects and community partnerships.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
Minimum of four years of post-MSW practice experience.
Strong commitment to teaching excellence and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Eligibility to obtain an LSW or LCSW license in Illinois within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Social Work (DSW or PhD) or related field.
Bachelor's degree in social work (BSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Illinois.
Experience with online education and developing distance learning programs in academic settings.
Demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching undergraduate courses in a CSWE-accredited BSW program, including course development.
Knowledge of typical roles and responsibilities of BSW level social workers. Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time non-tenure track faculty position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search posting closes. Work for this position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.

The budgeted salary range for these 9-month positions is $60,000-65,000 for an Instructor position, and $70,000-75,000 for a Lecturer position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
