The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is seeking an Environmental Scientist to perform duties related to Lake and Streambed Alteration in Riverside County, located in the Ontario office. We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist to apply knowledge of natural resources, with a willingness to learn the implementation of environmental law. Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) you would work independently on assigned work with a dedicated, convivial, and collaborative team of environmental scientists in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Habitat Conservation Program in Riverside County. Primary duties include (see duty statement for detailed information): - Analyze, review, prepare and track Natural Community Conservation Plans (NCCP) and Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements, and associated environmental correspondence. Includes quantifying development impacts on natural resources and making recommendations to avoid, minimize, or mitigate impacts. - Conduct compliance monitoring, desk review and site visits of Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements. - Use and develop knowledge of California fish and wildlife resources, ecological principles, water resources management, lake and stream processes, permitting and environmental laws, and procedures and policies. - Work collaboratively with the permittees, local county and city jurisdictions, and state and federal agencies in the implementation of Natural Community Conservation Plans (NCCP)and other regulatory programs.

Ability to use a computer keyboard and Microsoft office software up to eight hours a day. Travel and field work is required. Field work may include driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle or hiking long distances in rugged terrain. Attendance at site visits, meetings, and trainings in all five counties in the Region and may require occasional overnight travel to reach some project or site locations. Attendance at internal and external training. Willingness to work long hours, sometimes including early mornings, late nights and weekends. May operate 4WD vehicles, project equipment, machinery, digital equipment, computers, and lab equipment. Ability to carry and move with a 25–30-pound backpack over uneven terrain, operating equipment in uneven terrain and inclement weather; presentations and fieldwork require operating and maintaining equipment, machinery, digital and lab equipment. This Position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs.
