Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

We are currently hiring a full-time Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator. The EHS Coordinator will report to the Plant Manager and will maintain safe operations by studying and interpreting OSHA, WISHA and MIOSHA regulations. As an EHS Coordinator, you will conduct inspections, identify causes of accidents and hazards and develop preventative measures and practices. We are looking for a Gemba focused leader who will collaborate with the facility leaders and teams to proactively eliminate risks and create a safety-first culture of continuous improvement.


It is imperative that the candidate selected has effective communication and writing skills, and the ability to review and amend management procedures. Additionally, the ability to communicate effectively with executive management teams, project teams and cross functional departmental teams. Also, externally to vendors, subcontractors, program managers and WISHA and MIOSHA representatives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all team members comply with health and safety regulations and implement protocols to minimize risk of accident or injuries and all TCF PPEs, GMPs, and Food Safety policies are being followed.
  • Interfaces with site personnel to identify hazards, and to develop and implement corrective/improvement measures. This could include the review and approval of specific work permits, as well as participation in incident investigation teams, safety audits, and/ or job task analysis.
  • Promotes proactive safety participation by all employees and ensures injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated.
  • Participate in programs and training to engage all employees in proactive safety participation and ensures all injuries, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported, investigated to root cause and counter measured.
  • Support safety committee in eliminating workplace injuries and illnesses by identifying hazards in the workplace.
  • Prepares employees for safe work by developing and disseminating safety information and conducting safety training and orientations.
  • Recommends the purchase of safety equipment by coordinating requirements with purchasing and evaluating products.
  • Provides safety information and reports by collecting, analyzing, summarizing data and trends, and maintaining records.
  • Analyze facility safety data, accident investigations and safety trends to identify areas for program creation, improvement or focus.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by understanding current conditions and alerting others regarding potential concerns.
  • Improves safety management job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; sharing best practices with other Twin City Foods locations.
  • Contributes to the safety committee and safety department success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Other duties as assigned to support EHS department goals and objectives.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or science, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or another related field.


Minimum of 2-4 years of related safety management, environmental and/or supervisory responsibility preferably in manufacturing or related environment. Working knowledge of EHS regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, trends, and resources.


Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.


Must possess knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and ability to conduct Process Hazard Analysis.


Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge & use of the Internet. Ability and experience in use of office equipment, including calculator, fax, copier, scanner, printer, shredder, etc....


Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from corporate managers, clients, and customers.


Math and Reasoning Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Required Education/Training/Certification Qualifications:

  • Professional and/or industry certifications in environmental, safety or industrial hygiene, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, etc.
  • First Aid/ CPR Certification.
  • Experience in the food processing industry, freezing technology and systems, and field operations.
  • Certification in Food Safety (e.g., HACCP, PCQI, BRC).
  • Minimum OSHA 10-hour Certification and willingness to obtain OSHA 30-hour certification.
  • Fluency in Spanish as a second language including ability to read and write work instruction documents related to safety programs preferred but not required.
  • Ability to get respirator qualified with medical evaluation & fit testing requirements.

  • Willingness to travel (20%) up to a full week’s stay for support visits to Twin City Foods facilities, attendance at professional development seminars or training, or other travel as required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for vehicle insurance coverage.

Essential Physical Abilities:

The employee must be able to perform all the essential requirements of the job. Ability to sit/stand/walk throughout the 8-hour day and longer hours, when required. Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to use and handle objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Occasionally required to visit other locations to observe and conduct safety inspections.
