About the Department The Engineering Department provides engineering expertise, construction project management, technical services, and support to Central Arizona Project (CAP).
About the Responsibilities An Electrical Engineer (or Senior Electrical Engineer) within Engineering Services department will lead CAP in modernizing aging electrical system infrastructure. This position will lead projects through conception phase, design phase, procurement phase, construction phase, and commissioning phase. This position will ensure that technical documentation, including plans and specifications, are accurate, complete, and retrievable by those who require such documentation. This position provides technical professional level expertise in designing quality capital projects and asset modifications (smaller scope internal design projects) within established budgetary ad schedule guidelines. This position will review and communicate technical comments on contract and drawing submittals, review and respond to technical Request for Information (RFI), inspects work done by contractors and CAP maintenance personnel, and provides technical input on work quality, as-built drawings, and adherence to electrical codes and standards. This position will act as a productive team member, or team leader, on interdependent technical support teams.
Some of the specific duties include:
- Provides complete and professional design services and technical leadership for the purpose of planning, constructing, testing, and commissioning new features of the CAP and modifying, operating, and maintaining existing features of the CAP through engineering expertise and coordination of all related disciplines. This includes the preparation of, or technical oversight of, plans and specifications, internal Work Packages, and materials and cost estimates.
- Acts as the internal, discipline specific, engineering expert to the entire CAP organization and effectively communicates recommendations and technical conclusions. Provides discipline specific engineering leadership, mentoring, and expertise to other personnel as necessary or as directed.
- Provides electrical power system design and construction support, which requires technical proficiency in protective relaying, synchronous machines and excitation systems, low and medium voltage distribution systems, arc flash studies, single-line diagrams, control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Prepares, conducts, or provides technical oversight of, electrical power system studies and investigations to include low, medium and high voltage systems. Communicates the outcomes in a complete and professional manner to all appropriate levels.

Minimum Qualifications For the
Engineer position: five (5) years of applicable electrical engineering experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; or three (3) years of engineering experience with a Master's in Electrical Engineering is required.
For the
Senior Engineer position: eight (8) years of applicable electrical engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; or six (6) years with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Must be registered as a professional engineer.
A valid driver's license and maintaining a good driving record is required. This is a safety-sensitive position and requires physical testing.
