Job Description

Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the strategic management of the agency’s personnel resources.  As a part of the Executive Management Team, works to set the human resources direction for the agency and then directs and manages day-to-day activities associated with its execution.

Job Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic planning leadership regarding the agency’s human resources.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to the executive team and management-level employees.
  • With input from the executive leadership, as well as various departmental leaders, and considering industry trends, establish a sound plan of management succession that supports continuity of services for FiftyForward.
  • Recruits and hires top talent. In support of FiftyForward’s strategic goals, develop and manage comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention programs to meet the human capital requirements of all departments in service to the organization.
  • Oversees workforce planning to include budgeting, staffing levels, and billable targets.
  • Maintains positive employee relations and serves as a resource for employees.
  • Ensures consistent application of agency policies and procedures.
  • Manages the agency’s performance evaluation and talent assessment processes.
  • Maintains responsibility for the training and development of all employees.
  • Directs salary administration and compensation practices. Maintains records and ensures communication with accounting/payroll.
  • Oversees and makes recommendations regarding the agency’s benefit programs. Ensures the timely enrollment of eligible employees in benefit programs, provides benefits counseling, and assists employees with questions or problem resolution.
  • Oversees the coordination of new employee orientation and manages the onboarding process.
  • Manages promotion, transfer, and termination of employees. Manages exit process.
  • Maintains agency-wide communication with employees through meetings, email, newsletters, and other methods.
  • Maintains an understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations that apply to the administration of personnel programs to ensure proper compliance.
  • Establish, enhance, and lead employee engagement efforts to support employee accomplishments, anniversaries, and other significant milestones within the organization.
  • Implement and maintain monthly reporting to executive leadership for all areas of responsibility.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Core Work Requirements:

Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

Experience: 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in operational human resources management.

Special Skills: Ability to organize work and prioritize to meet deadlines; strong oral written, and interpersonal skills including computer proficiency; ability to work efficiently in all Microsoft Office programs; managing electronic data files and records, prefer experience in Microsoft Office 365; ability to coordinate numerous projects running simultaneously; ability to work independently and as a team; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, agency participants, and the public; prefer background or interest in issues of aging.

Certifications and Licenses:HRCI certification or SHRM credential preferred. Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:This job operates in a smoke-free, professional office environment.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; fine finger dexterity; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Equipment Requirements:This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.  Ability to operate a computer keyboard by touch; ability to operate office equipment including computer, telephone, scanner, and copier.

Working Hours: Full-timeposition, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.  Ability to work flexible hours depending on needs and events.  (Travel is primarily local, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.)

Supervisor:  The Director, of Human Resources reports to the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director of Finance and IT. 

The Director, of Human Resources serves as a part of the executive management team of FiftyForward, is a non-voting member of the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors and regularly attends both the Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings.
