Job Summary St. John's University is a Catholic, Vincentian, metropolitan, global, and anti-racist institution. The Coordinator of Student Life and Social Media Manager, Rome is central to these efforts.
The Coordinator of Student Life designs, implements, and manages cultural programming and community service opportunities for students taking part in St. John's study abroad programs on the Rome Campus. The coordinator supports the Director of Rome Programs in program implementation and organization and serves as the Social Media Manager. The coordinator reports to the Director of Rome Programs and has no leadership or supervision roles.
Essential Functions PROGRAMMING & EVENTS
Work with the Director of Rome Programs to create and implement an exciting events program that emphasizes engagement with local culture and relates to course material.
Design and promote weekly local excursions in Rome to introduce students to the history and culture of the city.
Design and lead regional excursions in Italy and plan for all logistical details and educational content in close collaboration with the Director of Rome Programs.
Administer program and excursion budgets.
Organize and promote informal language learning programs.
Support the Coordinator of Academics and Program Development in their programmatic initiatives such as through collaborating to organize a rich and complementary event and excursions program or through leading/co-leading some of the excursions organized by the Coordinator of Academics and Program Development.
SERVICE ACTIVITIES
Manage each semester's service events.
Act as primary liaison with service partners and continually look for new potential service partners.
Attending service events with the students as needed.
STUDENT AFFAIRS ADMINISTRATION
Provide a thorough orientation to all students upon arrival with a full explanation of expectations, programming, and rules related to the students' stay in Rome.
Serve as first point-of-contact in the office for students with questions or concerns.
Work to ensure the health, safety, and general welfare of all students on St. John's program in keeping with protocols and guidelines established by St. John's.
Serve as part of a 24/7 on-call student emergency response rotation and coordinate responses to emergencies consistent with SJU's emergency response protocols as needed.
COMMUNICATIONS
Update all student materials--e.g., handbooks, expectations, language tools--as needed.
Create and distribute weekly newsletter that highlights upcoming service and extra-curricular activities along with cultural and linguistic facts about Rome.
Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, videos, and written documents) for the SJURome.com website and all Rome undergraduate social media.
Monitor and respond to social media comments, DMs, etc. to encourage participation in study abroad and create culturally relevant student life events.
OZANAM SCHOLARS PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
Manage the Ozanam program in Rome.
Create a service schedule for all Ozanam scholars in Rome.
Act as primary liaison with service partners.
Collaborate with the Ozanam Scholars Program's administrators in New York to ensure the service needs of the program are met.
Meet regularly with the Ozanam scholars serving in Rome to address issues as needed.

Work Environment This position runs in a professional office environment and requires you to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, multimedia equipment, etc.
Physical Demands No unusual physical demands are needed other than occasional walking deriving from field trips/site visits with students.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Full-time position of 38 hours per week, as per Italian CBA. Office hours are Monday to Friday with occasional evening/weekend/public holiday worked due to programmatic needs or emergencies.
Travel Occasional field trips in Italy and travel to the New York and Paris campuses may be required.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field.
1-2 years related experience in the study abroad field.
Preferred Education and Experience
Masters in related field.
3-5 years related experience in the study abroad field.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Authorized to work in the Schengen area.
Fluent in Italian and English.
Experience with educational systems in both Italy and the US.
Flexible work schedule.
