POSITION SUMMARY:

The AVP, Corporate Communications International & Destination Development leads Royal Caribbean Group’s communications efforts spanning a portfolio of critical corporate storytelling activities including corporate ESG vision and programs, overall destination development strategy, and RCG’s international operations and footprint. The individual in this role will help tell the corporate story across all three signature brands at Royal Caribbean Group. He/she will be a key communications leader and decision maker on topics impacting RCG’s destinations around the world and will be responsible for implementing effective external strategies to enhance the company’s corporate reputation. This role works with multiple stakeholders to share how RCG is investing in sustainability, positively impacting communities in every corner of the globe, and accelerating innovation to operate responsibly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as an advisor and senior communications counselor to RCG and its brands on the intersection of its business, destinations and communities including on global issues related to sustainability, fuel/energy transition, social impact, and public affairs.
  • Design and develop communications strategies in support of RCG’s ESG, destination development and international storytelling to multiple stakeholders.
  • Establish goals and priorities for the ESG, destination development and international communications teams, and provide guidance and counsel across the organization, including but not limited to the CEO, brand presidents, senior vice presidents and vice presidents, regarding corporate issues.
  • Create a proactive media strategy to share RCG’s corporate narrative in regions around the world that is aligned with the global strategy, drives regional objectives, and is supported by multiple stories and relevant events throughout the year.
  • Create and foster essential relationships necessary for the company’s long-term success, including with news reporters and editors, community influencers and opinion leaders, major customer and industry voices, industry associations and others.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously while interacting with senior management, the public, guests, media and special interest groups.
  • Develop talking points and presentation materials to support senior management communications.
  • Coordinate external events with media to achieve communication strategies and goals.
  • Assist in the development of and maintenance of the Corporate Communications annual budget in regions around the world.
  • Manage the external public relations agency in the development and implementation of corporate communication plans and strategies.
  • Ensure lockstep collaboration with the brands, Investor Relations, Destination Development and Government Relations functions, via both formal processes and ad hoc contacts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Journalism, English, or Communications.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience and background providing communications counsel to senior executives of a global publicly held company.
  • Outstanding track record of success in a large and complex global organization.
  • Familiarity with environmental, social and governance issues at a global level, including in support of an organization’s business and reputational goals.
  • A proven communications strategist and tactician who has demonstrated the ability to build brand and manage the reputation of a major business organization.
  • A successful record of creating clear and compelling communications strategies that support business strategy and market changes across multiple stakeholders.
  • Established track record in the development and execution of reputation management strategies including those that intersect with government, policy or public affairs issues. Able to anticipate and effectively address issues affecting the brand or enterprise.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience developing aggressive media relations and news development; experience with media interviews.
  • Proven ability in crisis management and proactively managing communications to minimize these events.
  • Can put him/herself in the mind of the consumer and all other key constituents from regulators to shareholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills [written and verbal]; exceptional interpersonal skills to influence internal and external relationship building and must exude credibility as a corporate spokesperson.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse communication teams in accomplishing aggressive objectives in a fast paced, values and results-driven environment.
  • Outstanding English language proficiency. Desirable proficiency in Spanish.
  • Availability to travel up to 10% of the time and flexibility to support unexpected business events outside of the regular business hours including holidays and weekends.

    • A pragmatic and professional nature, with strong project management skills to establish clear priorities quickly, meet deadlines and bring projects to completions within budget. Must be able to work effectively under pressure and handle a heavy workload.
