Job Description Summary
Assistant Football Coach for the varsity football program at the NCAA Division II level, specifically the Tight Ends. Duties include areas such as recruitment, practice/game preparation, practice/game implementation of coaching principles, funding, promotion, and other areas assigned by the Head Football Coach. Assist the Athletic Department in a role to enhance the internal and external visibility and recognition of the Michigan Tech football program. Teach Physical Education activity classes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
• Plan, organize, and administer the University's varsity football program with emphasis on the offense.
• Recruit football student-athletes from key areas such as Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan, as well as nationally.
• Develop and implement football practice sessions to meet needs for individual and team improvement.
• Evaluate MTU and opposing team capabilities to determine game strategy and manage/prepare the team for competition.
• Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to alumni, and campus and off-campus groups.
• Actively participate in fund raising activities and alumni relations.
• Monitor and promote the academic success of football student-athletes.
• Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Head Football Coach.
• Teach activity classes in the Department of Kinesiology & Integrative Physiology.
• Functional supervision may be exercised over student assistants and part time assistants.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
• Bachelor’s Degree
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
• Experience playing Offensive Line or Tight End and 5 years coaching football at the collegiate level, specifically the Offensive Line or Tight Ends.
• Working knowledge of the surrounding football recruiting areas, specifically the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Michigan and Wisconsin.
• Commitment to comply with all NCAA rules and Michigan Tech policies and procedures.
• Exceptional knowledge of basic football skills.
